Collection: Calcium
Calcium carbonate, calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide are chemical compounds that contain calcium as a central element, but differ in their composition and properties.
Calcium Carbonate
Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is an inorganic compound found in nature in the form of limestone, marble, and chalk, among others. It is a white powder that is insoluble in water, but soluble in acids. It is used in a wide variety of applications, such as the manufacture of cement, glass, chemicals, paints, coatings, and food additives.
Calcium oxide
Calcium oxide (CaO), also known as quicklime, is an inorganic compound produced by calcining limestone in a kiln at high temperatures. It is a white powder that reacts violently with water to form calcium hydroxide. It is used in a wide variety of applications, such as steel production, cement production, metal purification, agriculture, and the removal of air and water pollutants.
Calcium Hydroxide
Calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2), also known as slaked lime, is an inorganic compound formed when calcium oxide is mixed with water. It is a white powder that is soluble in water and forms an alkaline solution. It is used in a wide variety of applications including water purification, papermaking, metal production, agriculture, construction, and the removal of air and water pollutants.
In short, calcium carbonate is mainly used as a raw material in the production of various chemical products, while calcium oxide and calcium hydroxide are mainly used in industrial and environmental applications.
Calcium Sulfate
Calcium sulfate (CaSO4) is another inorganic compound that contains calcium as a central element. It is a white or colorless compound found in nature in the form of a mineral (gypsum and anhydrite). Calcium sulfate is used in various applications, such as the manufacture of building plaster, in the production of food and beverages as a firming agent, in the ceramics industry, and in the manufacture of chemical and pharmaceutical products. It is also used as an additive in cement production to improve the strength and durability of concrete. Additionally, calcium sulfate is used as a nutritional supplement in animal feed and as an ingredient in human dietary supplements.
